Wilson Audio Alexx V Loudspeaker

About

When it came time to evolve the Alexx, Daryl Wilson wanted the design to reflect the significant research and development advances achieved by Wilson Audio over the previous five years. Rather than a simple update, the engineering team approached Alexx V as an entirely new loudspeaker, re-examining every component while applying the technologies developed since the original Alexx.

Following landmark launches such as the WAMM Master Chronosonic, Chronosonic XVX, Sasha DAW and SabrinaX, Alexx V joins a distinguished family of reference loudspeakers created for dedicated music lovers and audiophiles.

The original Alexx, introduced in 2016, quickly received widespread critical acclaim. It incorporated several design elements developed during the creation of the WAMM Master Chronosonic — the magnum opus of Wilson Audio founder David A. Wilson. Building on that foundation, Alexx V expands the performance envelope through comprehensive re-engineering while maintaining a similar footprint. The new design is only 1 inch taller and 1 inch deeper than the original, with the same width.

Every component of Alexx V has been reconsidered and refined. The result is greater resolution, improved time-alignment accuracy, and enhanced musical realism, reflecting Wilson Audio’s long-standing philosophy of cumulative design improvement.

Drivers

Alexx V retains the Midrange–Tweeter–Midrange (MTM) architecture of the original Alexx but introduces significant advancements throughout the driver system.

The adjustable module system has been further refined, bringing time-alignment accuracy much closer to that of the Chronosonic XVX. This precision enables Alexx V to reproduce extremely fine musical detail normally associated with much larger systems.

Two differently sized midrange drivers allow more precise tuning of the critical midband. The 5.75-inch mid-woofer, previously used in Alexx, TuneTot and SabrinaX, remains due to its speed and resolution. Complementing this is a 7-inch midrange driver featuring Wilson Audio’s advanced AlNiCo QuadraMag motor system, originally developed for the Chronosonic XVX. This design uses four magnets arranged in a quadrature geometry to deliver exceptional midrange warmth, texture and detail.

Internal wave diffusers positioned behind the midrange drivers help increase settling speed and clarity, improving tonal accuracy and expressive nuance.

For high frequencies, Alexx V introduces an entirely new Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) tweeter. This in-house design builds on Wilson’s previous Convergent Synergy motor but adds an advanced carbon-fibre rear-wave chamber produced using precision 3D printing. The result is significantly greater high-frequency extension, improved linearity, and enhanced retrieval of ambient detail.

Low frequencies are handled by 10.5-inch and 12.5-inch woofers originally developed for the WAMM Master Chronosonic. The redesigned enclosure increases internal volume by 16 percent compared with the original Alexx, providing deeper bass extension, faster transient response and greater overall bass resolution.

Adaptability

Alexx V is designed to be exceptionally adaptable to a wide variety of listening environments.

Features inherited from larger Wilson designs include the reversible XLF woofer port and independently adjustable upper modules, allowing precise tailoring to room acoustics and listening position.

The open-architecture gantry system, first introduced with the WAMM Master Chronosonic and later used in the Chronosonic XVX, enhances both structural rigidity and visual design. It also reduces pressure build-up behind the enclosures, improving overall fidelity.

An illuminated rear cross-brace, inspired by the Sono 1™ lighting system developed with Coolfall®, assists with module setup and precise time-alignment adjustment.

Materials

Alexx V employs a carefully selected combination of advanced materials to optimise resonance control and structural integrity.

Wilson Audio’s latest generation of X-Material is used throughout the woofer enclosure, gantry and upper modules for its exceptional rigidity and damping properties. S-Material is integrated around the midrange drivers, providing a neutral and natural acoustic platform.

The company’s V-Material — first introduced in the Chronosonic XVX — is strategically placed at key interface points to absorb vibration and improve system stability. It is also incorporated into the new Wilson Audio Acoustic Diode spike system.

These proprietary materials are combined with carbon fibre, austenitic stainless steel and aerospace-grade aluminium to create a structure that is both technically advanced and visually distinctive.

Hardware

Alexx V introduces several upgraded hardware elements designed to enhance performance and usability:

  • Wilson Audio Acoustic Diode spike system – a newly developed coupling mechanism using stainless steel and V-Material for superior vibration management.

  • Custom Wilson Audio binding posts – first introduced in Sasha DAW, offering improved contact area and compatibility with both spade and banana terminations.

  • Advanced cable management system – originally developed for the WAMM Master Chronosonic, allowing optimal cable routing as the upper modules are adjusted for time alignment.

  • Gold electrical lugs used throughout the crossover and connection points to maximise conductivity.

  • Magnetically attached gantry grilles for easy installation and removal.
